STREETSCAPE PROJECT

Summer, 2009 is an exciting time in Downtown Farmington as a major streetscape project is implemented along Grand River Avenue. The City of Farmington and the Farmington Downtown Development Authority invite you to learn more about the project and its intended benefits by exploring these pages.

Grand River Streetscape Objectives
• Attract new businesses to the Downtown, resulting in job creation
• Reinforce the image of the Downtown as a community destination
• Improve traffic safety and maintain flow along Grand River Avenue
• Improve pedestrian safety and comfort
• Create a more aesthetically pleasant Downtown
• Improve walkability in the Downtown

Where and when did the idea of the streetscape project originate?
The streetscape is part of Farmington’s Downtown Master Plan, adopted by the Planning Commission in 2004. This plan incorporates phased changes to our Downtown, which included the addition of the Walter E. Sundquist Pavilion and Riley Park in 2005. It is a continuation of the phased improvement process that will help make Farmington a viable community.
